Respond to paper

Now you are ready to LOOK and WRITE!

1) Open this file ( see attached)

to see how to format your Response Paper 1.

2) Find the artwork below AND on page 80 of “A World of Art”: ( Picture attached)
Utagawa Hiroshige (Ando), “Moon Pine, Ueno, No. 89 from One Hundred Famous Views of Edo”, 1856, woodblock print, 14 3/16 in. x 9 1/4 in.
Take about ten minutes to really LOOK at the print.

3) Write down 25 observations about the artwork.
Tell me what you see. Describe it in words.
One very obvious observation is that a tree is very close-up in the print.
But now describe the tree. List its color(s). Texture. Detail is important here!
You may list more then 25 observations.

4) Now in a minimum of 300 words describe in essay form “Moon Pine, Ueno” to me using your observations. This is a writing exercise to get you flexing your writing muscles.
Indulge in this describing in this essay! Attempt to tell me EVERYTHING that you see. Act as if you are describing the piece to a person who could NEVER see it. You can write more then 300 words if you need to!
NOTE that you should NOT be telling me what the print is about or what it means. Stay focused on simply writing what you see/observe.
