Responding – Due on Sunday Dec 9

Humanities

1. David Hume once wrote that “the life of man is of no more importance to the universe than that of an oyster.” First, what do you think Hume meant in saying this? Second, how do you respond?

2. Jean Paul Sartre, the French existentialist philosopher, said “Everything has been figured out, except how to live.” Looking back over what we have covered in this course, how do you respond to this? DO we know how to live? If not, why not? Will we ever? Is it perhaps that we DO know how to live, yet we DON’T live the way we know we should? Provide reasons and examples to defend your answers.
