Research Term paper:

  • The topic for this assignment is in Human Sexuality. Topic examples can be found on your class rubric which is at the very end of your syllabus.
  • Your research sources must be scholarly journal articles from Los Angeles Valley College Library database.
  • You must use a minimum of three journal articles to complete this assignment.
  • Essay format: Minimum 3 pages long; the title page does NOT count towards the 3 pages.
  • Must be 12 point font and Times New Roman.
  • MLA format.
  • Cite your sources on your essay.
  • Works cited page required. It DOES NOT count towards the 3 pages.
  • You are NOT allowed to cite from your textbook for this assignment.

Research Paper: Rubric Grading Criteria

Topic: Human sexuality; topic ideas are listed at the end of the rubric.

Title: Must be an engaging title 3 points

Thesis / Declarative sentence Rating: 3 points

  • The thesis statement is in the form of a declarative sentence that states clearly and concisely the main point that the author is trying to make. Establishes focus that clearly directs the body of the essay.

Organization Rating: 5 points

  • Organization is coherent unified and effective in support of the research paper’s purpose goals and ideas. Consistently demonstrates effective and appropriate transitions between sentences and paragraphs.
  • Relevant, concrete, specific insightful evidence in the topic (utilizing scholarly journal articles or articles from WLAC database).

Style and Mechanics Rating: 4 points

  • Effective in tone, incorporating good sentence structure, precise word choice and correct grammar, spelling and punctuation.
  • MLA style(Cited Page and Cover Sheet)
  • The conclusion includes an ending comment that inspires the reader to continue thinking about your topic.
  • Narrow the focus of your paper.
