Choose a nonfiction young adult book from YALSA’s list of award winners, using the link below. Choose a title of interest and then use the GCU databases to find at least three reviews of the book from sources such as Kirkus, Horn Book Review, and Publisher’s Weekly. Please note that you are only required to read reviews of the book you chose for this assignment, although you certainly may choose to read the book.

Provide a short summary of the book on which you chose to read reviews.

What is common among all the reviews you read, and what differences did you notice?

What are the overall opinions of the reviewers? Do they agree? Disagree? Do some reviews seem more or less favorable? Upon what basis?

Do the reviews make you want to read the book? Does one review make it sound more appealing than others?

What key information does the review provide teachers? Does it provide a grade level and page count or other pertinent information for the targeted audience? How might this information helpful to you in the classroom as a teacher? What information was not provided that would be helpful to you as a teacher?

What ways could you incorporate these books whose reviews you read into the classroom? Provide specific examples of how to use nonfiction and informational texts in classroom instruction.
