Homer’s Iliad is a rich site for tracing notions of masculinity, particularly via examination of the

primary Greek war hero, Achilles. Develop an analysis in which you consider the personal traits of

Achilles in the text along with the idea of “contest” as a predominant feature of Greek cultural life. You

may find it useful to comparatively analyze Paris as counterpoint to Achilles and/or his brother Hector.

Then reflect on that figuration in relation to your own and/or modern day notions of masculinity
