One of the best ways that we can understand the different purposes and perspectives of the Gospel writers is by comparing how the different ways that they tell the “same” story. One story that is told in all three of the Synoptic Gospels is the Parable of the Sower and the explanation for Jesus’ use of parables (Matthew 13:1-23; Mark 4:1-25; Luke 8:4-18). Provide an analysis of the similarities and the differences between at the three versions. What is the significance of this comparison for understanding the perspectives of the different Gospels? What do the differences in the versions of the parable tell us about the distinctive voices, points of view, and purposes of the different Gospels and their authors?
