Purpose: to write about 2 pages in MLA format analyzing the argument in an ad or editorial cartoon that you pick from the suggested list that is attached to the pre-writing assignment or one that you have chosen. If you choose to evaluate your own choice, make sure to include a copy of the choice with your paper (you can submit a file or put the visual in your paper). Your analysis should include:
- an introduction that has the typical hook and introductory discussion and ends with a thesis that clearly states if the ad/cartoon is effective or not, and a preview of the evidence you will use to support your stance.
- body paragraphs that go through the evidence thoroughly and with specific examples to show that your stance is the correct one. Make sure that you explain all specific examples and connect this back to your main point.
- a conclusion that wraps up by restating the thesis, recapping the main evidence, and makes a strong finishing statement.
Tone/Audience: Your audience is the Lone Star community and you should maintain an academic tone that uses the lingo of argumentation and evaluation (such as ethos, pathos, logos, figurative language like metaphor, allusion, etc). Standard English rules apply
