Compare the The Wachowski Brothers’ 1999 film, The Matrix, with Plato’s “Allegory of the Cave.”

  • In what ways does the plot of The Matrix echo the lesson Plato is teaching in the allegory?
  • What do they both say about the human condition?
  • In your answer make sure to discuss the DRIVING QUESTION … What did Socrates mean when he stated in Plato’s The Republic, “The unexamined life is not worth living” ?.

Think piece must be a minimum 3 pages, typed, double-spaced and in 12 pt. Times New Roman font. In other words, essay must be in proper MLA format. Paper must have paragraphs with a beginning, middle, and end. Paper must include at least two quotes from the “Allegory” with proper parenthetical documentation (in-text citations.) Also, properly cite examples from the movie (direct quotes or paraphrase.) Please include a works cited in proper MLA format.

You will be graded on clarity of thought, organization, and cogent examples from both works to solidify your claims. Do not focus too much on plot. You must work with a partner and turn in one essay with both names on it. There is no need for any outside research. Papers must be submitted to turnitin.com.
