-What differences do you see between the two sets of rankings? What might account for these differences?

The only three with major difference are “Interesting work”, “Help with personal problems” and “Flexible working hours” The flexible hours seems to me more of a sex difference rather than cultural. I require a job with flexible hours strictly because I have children at home whom I personally need to see to and from school and stay home with if they are sick. Interesting work is definitely more cultural being that in the U.S we have more educational opportunities that allows us to chose our path versus other countries.

• How might these differences affect working relationships?

The largest problem I see would be with the actually interest within work. If I am at a job I love then I will show broad enthusiasm. Someone whom is simply working for the paycheck could come off negatively towards myself leaving a possible communication barrier if I allowed it. I do not expect my supervisor or employees to have any part of my personal problems, however if someone came to me with them I would not object. Being that this is a difference I do not see it as a problem.

• How might employees from each culture approach their job?

Guermillo is from. He would enter his job respectfully and ready for anything. The job to him is extremely important and he will do his best to be available for schedule changes and overtime. He will of course expect respect and understanding in return along with safety measure depending on the job. I myself will walk into work excited or hopeful for the events of the day. I would be similar to Guermillo excluding the helpfulness to shift changes or overtime.

• How can we adapt to the different needs of our co-workers and help them adapt to ours?

As they come up, each employee should be respectful to each others needs. Communication is the best way to avoid any conflict.

• As supervisors, how can we adapt to different notions of job satisfaction and keep all employees motivated?

After reading the text, the best thing for supervisors is to that generalized approaches for both Northwest Asian cultures and Western nations. Simply knowing how each culture typically functions inside the work-place can help avoid many possible conflict or communication barriers.
