Learning Activity #3: Ethical Perspective Paper
- Find two websites that support a spiritual approach to those who are experiencing both physical and emotional challenges.
- Read the Introduction in your text by Arterburn and Felton
- Read Chapter 1 of your text by Seamands
- Write a 2-3 page paper that addresses the ethical challenges faced by therapists who attempt to bring spiritual dialogue into the counseling context. Address the following points.
- Clearly identify and expound upon issues that postmodern thinkers could have regarding a spiritual approach and especially a Christian one.
- Share your views on why the media and academia are often antagonistic towards people of religious faith and especially Christians.
- Employ critical thinking in developing a strong foundation that justifies a spiritual approach in counseling and psychotherapy.
- Provide two academic resources.
Learning Activity #6: Week One Journal
- Read Chapters 1-2 in your text by Arterburn and Felton.
- You will create a journal throughout this course and it will consist of five one-page entries, with one page being written each week. The journal entries will help provide insight into your own experiences and perspectives as to the issues addressed.
- This week’s journal entry should address the following four areas:
- The necessity of respecting and prioritizing the perspectives of the counselee. (1 paragraph)
- How to “Open the Door” without violating the counselee’s integrity. (1 paragraph)
- Briefly identify some of the behaviors that, in severe cases, can lead to a toxic faith. (1 paragraph)
- Your own experience wherein you have been enhanced by those who valued you as a person and affirmed your beliefs and views. (1 paragraph)
- Provide 1-2 academic resources.
