Course Reflection

Now that you have completed the course, take some time to consider what you have accomplished or struggled to accomplish. Reflect on the major concepts you studied in this course:

  • Understanding different types of psychological research methods.
  • Applying research methodology to design an ethically appropriate psychological research study.
  • Communicating effectively.

When addressing the main course concepts, complete the following:

  • Explain how your understanding of psychological literature has improved.
  • Indicate how you have applied one course concept in a workplace or personal situation.
  • Discuss in detail, with the use of an example, your most valuable lessons learned in this course.
  • Explain how what you have learned helped you in your overall course of study.

Here are two other classmates discussion that needs to be replied to by tonight

Hi Class,

Research has never been an interest of mine , however I really enjoyed this class. I enjoyed reading and interpreting research designs and studies. I never understood what it takes to create an actual research study . So I’m leaving this class with a wealth of knowledge. I learned a lot about the different methods of research such as quantitative , qualitative and experimental research . I have learned how to start a research proposal by integrating multiple components in an understanding and logical way . By creating a research problem, research question , hypothesis, collection techniques, data analyses and study outcomes and implications. Most importantly, I have learned to communicate more professionally when discussing research and its importance . I have learned how to communicate efficiently in my discussions and assignments . I have to say a big part of this is accepting the feedback from my instructor and peers. One of the biggest challenges in this course was understanding psychological literature. I am now leaving this class with a better understanding and a different point of view. I am now able to interpret psychological literature in my own words .

My current job is in an Orthopedic department and they are doing a major research project on ACL reconstructions. Since this course I have gained much more respect for the researchers. I have asked them many question and even offered my input and help on there project . I was surprised that I could understand there research, research problem and there study methods. My most valuable lesson from this course was the understanding of the validity and reliability of a research project . Understanding how much needs to be put in a research project for it to be successful and reliable. I desire to be a psychologist and look forward to futureresearch projects . I know research information can help implement new diagnoses or treatment and I would love to be a part of this.

Writing a Research Proposal

The most challenging part of my research project was the methodology section. Although my research did not involve collection of data from actual participants, there was a huge amount of data that was being collected through sources which was difficult to sift through. The existing data can be analyzed to generate new hypothesis or answer critical research questions. If I were to actually carry out the study, I would include more variables to manipulate. I would also investigate the biological perspective of criminal behavior, for instance genetic disposition. I would have to conduct research based on my topic, juvenile recidivism, because I have no affiliation with this topic other than interest. I can use research in my career to address the behavioral and social issues that affect the community.
