For this discussion, you are going to research one of the most politically contentious issues in America today: safe havens and sanctuary cities. Watch the following video, do any extra research as necessary and then answer the following questions:

1.) What are safe havens or sanctuary cities? Do we have any in Texas?

2.) Describe both the political and cultural advantages and disadvantages of these. Are there any dangers related to them? What?

3.) What specific issues do both the states and federal government have with them? Are these viable? Why or why not?

4) Lastly, what are your overall thoughts on cities within the states declaring themselves as safe havens or sanctuary cities? What are your thoughts on the federal governments directives to shut them down? Are there any potential issues of federalism with this issue? If a local or state government decides to become one, what role should the federal government play?
