For this assignment there are three topics to choose from. Please select one topic and write a 3-5 page paper (students must adhere to these page limit requirements) that includes information from at least two outside (i.e. not your textbook) scholarly resources. You may use your textbook as a third resource. As a reminder, do not use wiki websites, about.com, blogs or any website that does not have a strong academic background. If you are unsure about a resource please ask. This paper must be written in APA format, including a title page with running head. Length requirement is 3-5 pages for the body to include in-text citations, and a reference page.
1. Life Transition and Prevention Strategy: Select a life transition (e.g. divorce, retirement, or the birth of a child) that is predictable for many people. Devise a prevention strategy that may guide individuals through what they might anticipate feeling and experiencing and how to process those feelings or experiences during the selected life transition.
2. Ethical Dilemmas: Identify two ethical dilemmas from social work or your current employment and answer the following questions for each dilemma:
a. What are the specific ethical issues in this dilemma?
b. What criteria can you use to resolve the ethical dilemma?
c. Who should resolve the ethical dilemma? The social worker, the client, both the social worker and the client, or the social worker’s/employee’s supervisor?
d. Who will benefit from the resolution of the ethical dilemma?
e. What are the various options for resolving the ethical dilemma? How do you decide which resolution is best?
3. Burnout and Compassion Fatigue: Write about burnout and compassion fatigue. Please include responses to the following questions:
a. What stressors do you foresee when working with others that may cause helper burnout and compassion fatigue?
b. How will a helper know if he or she is experiencing burnout or compassion fatigue?
c. In what ways will self-care help to avoid burnout or compassion fatigue?
d. Please also include self-care strategies that you will use when working with others.
