I arm asking you to demonstrate that you can gather information from the rich variety of writers and works of the Harlem Renaissance and use the information to articulate important concepts about the event.

  1. Describe three social or political factors that helped inspire the flourishing of literary activity in the 1920’s known as the Harlem Renaissance. Discuss each factor in two or three sentences in a way that explains the specific contribution which the factor made to the Renaissance.
  2. Describe three social or political factors leading the Renaissance to occur in Harlem, a neighborhood on the northern end of Manhattan Island with little prior importance as a place for black Americans to live.
