Meditation has been used as a method for treating an astonishing variety of medical and psychological problems and a meta-analysis confirms its overall value in improving health. Some researchers claim that meditation can even reduce the cost of health care. Meditation specifically offers an alternative, non-pharmacological approach, for the treatment of attention deficit disorder, generalized anxiety, and several other commonly diagnosed mental health issues.
Perhaps it’s not surprising that improved ability to concentrate attention, achieved through meditation, has also been found to improve memory, intelligence, and academic performance. Meditation seems to increase mindfulness, which contributes to well-being.
Meditation is now used by many Western psychotherapists and medical practitioners in conjunction with other therapeutic interventions to deal with stress, anxiety, and many other disorders including hypertension, headaches, and insomnia.
